In an attempt to achieve his aim of ensuring that students of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, pass out with excellent ability and skill in at least one sport, the Founder of the University, Chief Michael Ade.Ojo has promised to provide sports kits for the students to wear during their sports break and other training sessions.
Chief Ade Ojo made the promise while addressing a gathering of spectators during the final of Michael Ade Ojo Open Tennis Championship, an annual Tennis competition, organized in his honour, held at the Sports Complex of the University.
The Founder described sport as a way of keeping the body and soul together, which he said has a positive effect on how healthy and long one would live. He said that his determination is to ensure that students of the University use their leisure time for rewarding activities rather than engaging in acts capable of ruining their futures.
According to a release by the Institution’s Sport Coach, Mr. Bewaji Olaniyi, the annual Tennis Championship is to reciprocate the unequal passion that Chief Ade Ojo has shown for sport. He informed that the latest edition was specifically organized to mark the Founder’s 75th birthday.
Mr. Bewaji analyzed that a total of 16 Tennis Players took part in the competition. He added that the competition was designed in a way that would strengthen the staff/students’ relationship. He said, “the winner of student category, Mr. Oluyale Iyanu contested against the winner of staff category, Prof. Henry Akintunde in a final designed to foster good relationship between staff and students”.
Prof. Henry Akintunde emerged the winner after epic rounds of play, which witnessed great support from the spectators, who were thrilled with skills demonstration.
Present at the event were Senator Gbenga Obadara, Chairman, Omoregie Motors, Mr. S.O. Asemota, Business Icons, Traditional Rulers, Sport lovers and friends and family of the Founder.
