Elizade University gets new VC

The Board of Trustees of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, on the recommendation of the Governing Council of the institution, has approved the appointment of Prof. Olukayode Oladipo Amund as the 3rd substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.


Born about 65 years ago, Prof. Amund attended the University of Lagos where he graduated with First Class (Hons.) in Microbiology in June, 1977. He proceeded to Cranfield Institute of Technology (now Cranfield University), United Kingdom for a Ph.D programme in Biotechnology and graduated in October, 1982.


Prof. Amund joined the services of the University of Lagos in 1978 as a Graduate Assistant, and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Microbiology in 1998 with specialty in Petroleum/Environmental Microbiology.


Prof. Amund is a fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB), United Kingdom, Institute of Policy Management Development (FIPMD) and the African Academy of Science (FAAS), Nairobi. He is also a member of some learned societies, including the Society for General Microbiology, UK, Nigerian Society of Microbiology, Ecological Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Environmental Society (MNES), Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology and Environmental Practitioners Association of Nigeria (EPAN).


Until his appointment as the 3rd substantive Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Prof. Amund was the Director, Distance Learning Institute of the University of Lagos. He has also held several administrative positions within the University system. He was the foundation Vice-Chancellor of Wesley University of Science and Technology, Ondo City. Prof. Amund has served as the Dean, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Head, Departments of Botany and Microbiology, Dean of Students and Hall Master, among several other administrative positions held in the University of Lagos and other Universities in the country. He has also served as Chairman and member of several University Committees, Panels and Boards.


Prof. Amund has demonstrated outstanding scholarship with his academic publications. He has over 90 publications in learned International Journals and over 18 publications in local journals. The Don has also contributed Chapters in three (3) books. Prof. Amund has published widely on academic websites, especially the website of the United States’ National Centre for Biotechnology Information where he has over 56 Articles. He has presented 56 Papers/Posters at both


International and Local Conferences. Prof. Amund has also delivered ten (10) public lectures across the country. The new Vice-Chancellor has functioning research partnerships/linkages with twelve (12) international academics.


The Don has won several research grants worth millions of Naira for development-driven researches. He has also carried out consultancy services for government agencies, industries and corporate organizations.


Prof. Amund has received several awards of excellence, certificates of honour and Plaques in recognition of his outstanding contributions to knowledge.
