B.Sc Cyber Security

Objectives

Objectives of Bachelors honours degree programme in cyber security are to:

(i)     create in students the awareness and understanding of the securitychallenges accompanying the widespread adoption and usage of informationtechnologies, and raise their interest in working in the field of cyber security;
(ii)   provide a broad and robust foundation in cybersecurity knowledge andpractical skills in securing computer systems and networks from breaches anddetecting weak-links in personal, and enterprise systems;
(iii)  develop in students a range of transferable applicable skills ofinformation technology to all aspects of human endeavours; and
(iv)  Give anappreciation of the current state and future directions of technologicaladvances in security.


Philosophy

The philosophy institutinguniversities in Nigeria commonly is to build national capacity to move thecountry from its current state as a developing nation to that of an innovativeand developed nation, through technological development that pushes development,and develop high level manpower that will create job and wealth. Precisely, theproposed Department of Cyber Security will build capacity and develop humancapital to the highest level possible through pragmatic and dynamic training,research in the area of cyber security to safeguard the Internet, create joband wealth, and reduce unemployment and poverty.


Admission Requirements

The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Physics to form the core subjects with credit in at least two relevant science subjects, at Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent such as NECO, WAEC, and NABTEB. In addition, an acceptable passes in the University.

Candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in one or more relevant subjects (Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics) may undertake a three-year programme into 200-level.
