Dr. Akindele Joshua Famurewa is currently a Reader in Biochemistry and the immediate past Acting Head of Department of Physical and Chemical Sciences at Elizade University, Ilara Mokin. He earned his BSc (1985), MSc (1989) and PhD (2003) degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Ife and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Nigeria. Dr. Famurewa’s research interests cover Lipid Biochemistry, Natural Products and Medicinal Plant Research. Before joining Elizade University, Dr. Famurewa was a university lecturer for many years at the Obafemi Awolowo University with considerable experience in teaching and research in Biochemistry at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He was also a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry during his Sabbatical Year at Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, Ogun State (2006-2007) and a Visiting Scholar to the Pharmacology Department, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland (1994-1995).
Dr. Famurewa was formally the Acting Director of the South-South and South-West Zonal Offices of the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), located at Bayelsa and Lagos States, respectively. During this period, he was actively engaged in policy research and development studies, with keen interest in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) management for sustainable development. Dr. Famurewa has participated in many multidisciplinary and collaborative projects, including studies on Academia-Industry interactions in Nigeria’s Pharmaceutical Innovation System, membership of the technical teams that reviewed the new National STI Policy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Evaluated the Source and Quality of S&T Information available to Policymakers in Nigeria among others.
Dr. Famurewa has taught several science and technology courses including Biochemistry, Strategic Management of Technology, Management of R&D and National System of Innovations for many years. He has also supervised BSc & MSc theses and several postgraduate diploma projects in Technology Management. He is a member of professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Famurewa has many publications in reputable journals and has participated in several local and international conferences and workshops.
