About

OVERVIEW

Engr. Assoc. Prof. Lekan Olaosebikan has over 35 years’ experience of engineering career in both academia and industry. His academic qualifications include postgraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from Canada and USA, comprising M.Sc. (Univ. of Alberta, 1976), M.S.E (Johns Hopkins Univ., 1979) and Ph.D. (Virginia Tech. Univ., 1983). For his career, Dr Olaosebikan was at first in University teaching and research in the United States and Nigeria (1983 – 1996). He later worked in the Oil and Gas industry with Shell International Company in Nigeria and The Netherlands (1991 – 1995, 1996 - 2009) followed by consultancy to Industry and Universities (2010-2016). Presently, he is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Elizade University, Ondo State and former Acting Dean of the Engineering Faculty there. The earlier academic work included an Assistant Professorship in Virginia Tech University, USA (1983 – 1985), later, a Senior Lecturer at University of Ibadan, Nigeria (1986 – 1991, 1995 – 1996). While teaching in University of Ibadan, he was an annual Visiting Scientist at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in Trieste, Italy (1989 – 1991).

Dr. Olaosebikan is a member of several engineering professional bodies including the US-based International Society of Engineering Science, Society of Experimental Mechanics, Sigma-Xi Scientific Research Society and National Association of Corrosion Engineers as well as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and Council for the regulation of engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He is married, has a family and keeps fit and healthy through regular sporting exercise.

For his academic work, Dr. Olaosebikan has taught several Undergraduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) courses in Mechanical, Automotive and Mechatronic Engineering, which include mechanics of materials (basic and advanced), analytical dynamics, mechanics of machines, thermodynamics, elasticity, fracture mechanics, vehicle dynamics and continuum mechanics of solids and fluids. His research work is in fracture mechanics, materials degradation (corrosion) and non-linear dynamics in which he has published several papers in renowned international journals (see Outline bove). He has also supervised several PG degree theses and final year UG projects.

During his career in Shell, Dr. Olaosebikan worked for three years as a Senior Research Scientist in Shell Research Laboratories, Arnhem/ Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Later, in Shell Petroleum Development Co. Nigeria (SPDC) he was at first a Pipeline Operations and Integrity Engineer, then Head of Materials, Corrosion Control & Inspection (MCI) Engineer. Thereafter, he became Head of Materials & Corrosion in Shell Nigeria Offshore Exploration & Production (SNEPCO). During these assignments, Dr. Olaosebikan led several investigations on root cause failure analysis of process equipment and pipelines and introduced remarkable measures in corrosion control in the upstream Oil and Gas production operations. All these are documented in his many high-level technical reports and publications (see Outline above).
