Faculty of Engineering Wins 2025 Elizade University Debate Trophy

The Faculty of Engineering has clinched the coveted debate trophy in an electrifying contest that showcased intellectual brilliance, eloquence, and teamwork.
It emerged winner of the 2025 Inter-Faculty Debate and Public Speaking Grand Finale, organised by the Elizade University Debate and Public Speaking Society in a thrilling contest.

The keenly contested debate featured four teams across the parliamentary debating format. The Closing Opposition (CO) team — comprising Azi Ezra Aisen (Best Speaker) and Kolawole Segun — emerged champions with 8 points. The Opening Government (OG) team — Akinyefa Mercy (Best Speaker) and Golith Mariam — came a close second with 7½ points. The Opening Opposition (OO) — Akinwale Hannah (Best Speaker) and Jide Tamareebiju — secured third place with 6½ points, while the Closing Government (CG) team — Damalekun Lawson (Best Speaker) and Ayinde Hussain — finished fourth with 5½ points.

In the public speaking segment, participants impressed with powerful and well-researched speeches, eloquence and oratory.
Adeola Joshua from the Faculty of Law took first place with 92.5 points, followed by Liza Luca from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Management Sciences with 89.1 points. Onoha Daniel from the Faculty of Engineering and Environment scored 74.2 points, while Aimasiko Funmi from the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences finished with 65.2 points.
Winners also received cash award.

The event also marked a leadership transition within the Society. Outgoing executives, Sadiq Ahmad Sa’eed (President), Adegbeingbe Oyinkansola (Vice President), and Oluwadamilola Bamisaye (Public Speaking President)  officially handed over to the new leadership team led by Okpokam Mooyerga Ekoknzie (President) and King David (Public Speaking President).

Speaking at the ceremony, a Principal Staff, the Bursar, Mr Olusegun Ajeigbe commended the organisers for fostering a culture of intellectual engagement and public speaking excellence among students. The Dean, Students' Affair, Professor Modupe Abolade thanked the University's Management for being responsive to both the academic and curricular needs of students.
Programme Coordinator, Dr Tosin Adesile urged students to avail themselves of the various opportunities being provided by the University to make them globally competitive. The event reinforced Elizade University’s commitment to nurturing articulate, critical-thinking graduates who can engage meaningfully with societal issues.
